Once Upon A Time...

This post will be covering the past two weeks of school. Enjoy!
Once Upon A Time...:
We have been learning about Fairy Tales these past two weeks. We started with a KWL web to show what we already knew.

Next we learned about the parts of a Fairy Tale. The children learned about characters, setting, problem solving and the moral of a story.
Three Little Pigs

Little Red Riding Hood

The children learned how to make connections by thinking about how they are like baby bear from "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" and how they would feel if they were in the same situation.

We learned about Fractured Fairy Tales and compared/contrasted the story "Cinderella" with the story "Cinder Prince".

Some Fairy Tale centres that we had were:
 Dress up

 Castle

"Wand"erful words where the children had to find the correct category, write the word and colour the wand. This was a tough centre but many of them had fun writing.

French:
In French this month we have been learning how to count from 1 to 10. We have been counting everything.
This link will lead you to a video that teaches the numbers 1-10: French numbers.

Halloween:
On Friday it was Halloween. We dressed up and did a costume parade around the centre. Then we played games, turned children into mummies, made a jack-o-lantern, decorated cupcakes like jack-o-lanterns and sang songs. It was a fun day!

Writing:
This past week I introduced the children to an ABC chart. This gives them an idea of what letters say and it will help them in the beginning stages of writing. I am trying to teach them to sound out words and try to spell on their own. Any effort to spell is celebrated. Here are some of the words that they made.

Animated Literacy:
On Tuesday we sang "Apples and Bananas" and then completed a worksheet where the children added in the beginning vowel sound of their name into the song.

On Thursday we learned about "Daisy Dragon" who likes to dance for Date Delight ice cream.

On Tuesday we drew dad.

On Thursday we learned about "Timmy Tiger" who likes to tickle Tom the T-Rex with his toes.

Handwriting Without Tears
This week we learned how to write uppercase letters V, W, X, Y and Z.
For information on the order that I will be teaching letters please go to their website: http://www.hwtears.com/hwt/why-it-works/teaching-order

Don't Forget:
It is starting to get colder outside so please send mittens and warm jackets with your child.
Send a healthy snack with your child. A list has been sent home or you can visit 100 Days of Real Food for some awesome ideas.

Each child needs to have indoor shoes, a backpack and appropriate clothing for the weather.

Feel free to contact me anytime with any questions or concerns. I can be reached at the school, by email or just drop in (I am usually around before school).
