To Infinity and Beyond!

Our Favourite Part of the Day:
On Monday we did writing and read a story.
On Tuesday we learned about Mercury and had centres.
On Wednesday we learned about Venus and Kimmy Kangaroo.
On Thursday we learned about Earth and had calendar.
On Friday we learned about Mars and had snack.

Space:
We started learning about space this week. To begin our unit we completed a web showing what we already knew about space.

Then we wrote down what we wanted to learn.

We started learning about the planets. So far we have learned about Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. The children have really enjoyed learning about each planet.

We have slowly began creating an emergent reader about space.

The children created some pastel spaceships to add some colour to our room.

Shapes:
We began learning about 2D shapes. The first thing we did was try to make a circle with squares and triangles.

The children discovered that they couldn't do that because a circle is round and squares/triangles have edges and points.

Next we found different ways to make triangles and hexagons.

Centres:
We had new word work centres this week.
Syllable Practice:

Ending Sound/Rhyming Practice:

Missing Middle Sounds:

Animated Literacy:
On Monday we drew a jar of stars.

On Wednesday we learned about Kimmy Kangaroo who takes care of the animals at the zoo and likes to blow kisses. The grapheme is "K", "C", or "CK" and the phoneme is the "kuh" sound.

On Friday we drew a mask.

Handwriting Without Tears
This week we began learning to how to write lowercase letters. We started with "magic c". We wrote c, o and s.

At home you can practice writing all of the uppercase letters and the lowercase letters learned so far. For information on the teaching order and how to form the letters using the same language please go to their website

Feel free to contact me anytime with any questions or concerns. I can be reached at the school, by email or just drop in (I am usually around before school).
