Citizen of the Day Puzzle Pieces

Many of you have been asking about the Citizen of the Day Puzzle Pieces that are due every month. This post will give guidelines and show a sample for each piece. 

1. My Name (yellow)
  • Who named me?
  • Why am I named what I am?
  • Does my name have a special meaning?
  • Does everyone call me by the same name or do I have a nickname?
  • Other information about my name that I have found out or would like to share? 

2. My Interests (purple)
  • I like to read books about _________ because _________
  • I like playing _________ because _________
  • My favorite T.V. show is _________ because _________
  • I would like to be a __________ when I grow up because _________________
  • If your child has other interests he/she would like to share with the class, please have them do so (they may be interested in collecting things or they may participate in a sport or club, etc.)

    etc.)

    Please discuss with your child your special celebration (ex: Christmas, Diwali, Eid, Chinese New Year, Vesak).
    Do you have any special traditions? (ex:, preparing a certain kind of food, singing a special song, specials guests, gifts, how do you celebrate this day, etc)

    Please discuss with your child the ways your family celebrates birthdays.

    birthday traditions? (i.e. preparing a certain kind of food, singing a special song, special guests, gifts, etc.) Please also assist your child in learning his/her birthday so he/she can independently recite it.

  • Where does my family live?
  • Where did my grandparents live?
  • What is my family’s culture?
  • What are some things my family does together?

    • What color is my hair? My eyes?
    • How tall am I?
    • How much do I weigh?
    • Who do I look like in my family? Why?
    • What did I look like when I was a baby?
    • How have my looks changed since I was a baby?













  1. 8. Language (magenta)
    • What language do I speak at home? Why do we speak this language? Is this a different
      language then the one I speak at school?
    • What other language(s) do I speak? When? Why?
    • Words I know in another language are....(list some examples)
    • How do I know these words/how did I learn these words?
    • What are the two official languages of Canada?
      We are also learning about sign language as part of this topic. Please help your child practice “signing” their name so they can show the class when they present their puzzle piece.

Time Flies When You Are Having Fun Learning!

We have made it to the last 26 days of school. Time has flown by so fast. I have been finding it hard to keep up with the blog but am thankful for the seesaw app which has kept you all updated int he meantime. If you haven't got the seesaw app yet here is a link: http://web.seesaw.me/

Teeth:
We learned the parts of a tooth.

We learned about the types of teeth.
We learned how to take care of our teeth: brushing, flossing, eating healthy, rinsing and going to the dentist.

St. Patrick's Day:
We had a delicious treat: green milk and cupcakes.












We completed some art projects:
  

Our sensory bin had hidden coins.












Some children created leprechaun masks.













Dinosaurs:
We measured how big a T-Rex footprint was with our own shoes.
Chipping away at dinosaurs hidden in ice.
