Dinosaur Stomp!

Measurement--Weight:
We continued our measurement unit by focussing on weight. The children learned the meaning of heavy and light. They used a scale to measure how heavy something was and then compared items as heavier or lighter.

Dinosaurs (continued):
We learned the difference between herbivores and carnivores.

We learned what a paleontologist does and used these skills when digging dinosaurs out of ice and finding fossils in the sand.

We read the following poem:
I am a Paleontologist
I am a paleontologist
And this is what I know,
I study bones and fossils
from creatures long ago.
I put the bones together
a dinosaur you will see.
This is how they looked
come learn along with me.

We looked at fossils.

We examined how big a Tyrannosaurus Rex was.

We learned that dinosaur babies hatched from eggs.

One of our new favourite songs: Dinosaur Stomp

We made a paper mache volcano and watched it explode!

Butterflies:
We received our caterpillars this week. They are so tiny and hungry. We enjoy watching them crawl and eat food. We are very excited to see them grow and change into butterflies.

We completed a web showing what we already know about butterflies.

We learned the life cycle of a butterfly.

We learned the parts of a butterfly.

Earth Day:

For Earth Day this year we talked about ways that we can help our Earth. Then we created art using many recycled materials. We also learned about plants and planted our very own seeds. They have now started growing! The children have enjoyed watching the plants grow, seeing the roots and taking care of their plants.

Mother's Day:
We also made beautiful cards, bags and pendants with fingerprint hearts.
It will be Mother's Day this weekend so we have been working hard preparing a gift for our mothers. I found a great craft from POPSUGAR. We used our measuring skills to create "Peppermint Sugar Scrub" to send home to our mom's. The kids loved making this and the mom's really appreciated the gift.

We also made fingerprint pendants with the idea from That's What Che Said

The idea for our cards was found here.

All of these were placed in a beautifully decorated bag and presented Friday morning. The mother's were also given a muffin and some tea to further celebrate this special day.
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Puzzle Pieces:
Our social puzzle pieces are coming to an end. For the final piece the children had to say what made the student of the day special. Then that student wrote down all of the wonderful things on the last puzzle piece called "I'm Special".

Now I will be putting their puzzles together so that they are ready for the end of the year. It has been a wonderful project and memory.
